As I sit here enjoying my coffee while spending time with the Lord, it struck me how fortunate I am. It also struck me that we are at a tipping point as a nation and a world. This is a defining period of time that will be remembered for many years to come.
When looking back, what may be remembered more about this experience is not the actual virus itself, but rather how we chose to respond to the virus and its lasting impact on our society.
The last time I experienced similar feelings to this was 9/11. I saw both the good and the bad emerge from people through their words and actions. We are seeing this again in today’s circumstances when dealing with the Coronavirus. Is the virus bad? Yes, it is. Is the media sensationalizing it? Yes, they are. And, they should be ashamed for causing undue panic in times such as this.
I ask all of us to stop for a moment. Stop being selfish, scared, and worried. Stop being divisive with friends, family, other nations, and picking sides on the political aisles, and start building bridges. Instead of running away from someone who needs help or hoarding household items, do the opposite of your initial instincts and go up to them; reassure them, love on them and help them.
Instead of pointing fingers at who caused this or how our leadership and all political parties are responding, let’s focus on getting through this together. Use all that energy to look for ways to help, make positive comments, and affirm others. Now’s the time for our nation and the world to come together and deal with the enemy at the gate, which most think is the virus. To that, I would say the bigger issue is divisiveness
My challenge to all of us is to think of the people, groups, and things that get you fired up in a way that is not beneficial to the circumstances and go do something positive for them. Start now, not tomorrow. I promise, this will have a longer-lasting impact on our world.
This virus is real and it’s dangerous, but it will ultimately take its course and pass. What will not pass without a real change of heart is the divisiveness we have in this world. It’s time to come together!
