Halftime 2020 August 12, 2020

As an organization, TYGES typically brings everyone together in Williamsburg, VA for a few days every July for a mid-year conference.

During the conference we:

  1. Review our progress from the first half of the year and talk about our second-half plans.
  2. Break bread together multiple times.
  3. Have fun together.
  4. Learn together.
  5. Give back together.

Due to circumstances beyond our control (for those of you that are my age, you remember this lead-in line from back in the day), we had to cancel/modify our summer event this year. We ended up having an abbreviated virtual session.   

About half the team attended in person, and the other half joined us via Zoom videoconferencing. While it was effective in updating people on what has happened and what we are doing for the rest of the year, it just was not the same.

I see many people talking about the distinct advantages of working remotely and yes, there are a lot of them. But I will also tell you that I flat out missed my TYGES family. It was not the same.

So, what did we discuss?

We talked about how good Q1 was and how Q2 was bad but not as bad as it could have been.

We are one of the fortunate businesses that have a phenomenal group of people who came together during the tough times, and we have battled our way collectively through a couple of bad months.

We are better and stronger for it. I am not saying I liked it nor would I want to go through it again, but we all know things happen in life and business. You do have options. You can give up or you can fight. The TYGES family chose to fight, and I am proud to say we continue to fight as we have for the past 18 years. Not only to survive but to thrive. We will not let the noise of this world get in our way.

We have a plan and we are equipped with the tools and the training to not just survive but to build and grow. Hence why we are actively hiring people to join TYGES today. Most importantly, the TYGES team has the attitude, fortitude, and the drive to not let what is happening in this world to happen to them. We control the controllable and let the results be what they will be. 

While I missed not having our summer conference this year, I am truly proud of the TYGES team and their deep-down desire to fight. While the battle is not completely over, I know that this is the team that I want to be with going forward.

So remember, during these times and in future difficult times, it is okay to mourn and reflect but do not sit in this valley. Shift quickly, get back in the game, and bring the right attitude and effort.
