A Culture That Keeps Showing Up: TYGES Is Great Place to Work-Certified™ Again

Every year since 2021, we’ve asked our team a version of the same question: is TYGES a great place to work? And every year since 2021, they’ve told Great Place to Work® that it is. Five years running.

This year, the answers came back with numbers we’re especially proud of. Across every question the survey asked about life at TYGES, from leadership to fairness to whether people feel proud of the work they do, our team scored us at 95%. For context, the average U.S. company scores 57% on Great Place to Work’s headline question. And on five separate questions about how leadership shows up day to day, our team gave us a perfect 100%.

Culture is a habit

When we earned our first Great Place to Work Certification™ back in 2021, we were proud. We wrote the announcement. We shared it on LinkedIn. And then we went back to the work of showing up for each other, day in and day out.

That’s the part that doesn’t make it into announcements. Real culture takes daily work. It gets built through small choices you make over and over again, until they add up to something the team can feel.

What we’ve kept doing

A few things have stayed constant since that first certification.

The giving program. TYGES donates $1,000 annually to each employee’s 501c3 of choice. It’s our way of saying that what matters to you, matters to us. Every year, we hear stories about the organizations our team has supported, and every year we’re moved by the range of causes our people care about.

A liberal leave policy. Life happens. Kids get sick. Parents need help. Vacations get planned. We trust our team to manage their time.

Team-based recognition. We celebrate wins together, big and small. Placement announcements, personal milestones, and the occasional office prank all get their moment.

And a few things that make the office fun

Our Williamsburg office has picked up some unofficial traditions along the way. There’s a ping pong table that sees more action than we’d like to admit during lunch hours (fair warning: Tim usually wins). A putting green for when someone needs to think through a tough conversation. And a professional-grade popcorn machine that fills the office with the smell of a movie theater around 2 PM most days.

The perks are the surface. The certification measures what runs deeper. Both matter, in their own way, to what makes working at TYGES feel the way it does.

The numbers behind the culture

The Great Place to Work® Trust Index measures the parts of workplace culture that are hardest to fake. This year, 100% of our team agreed with each of these statements about leadership at TYGES:

  • Management keeps me informed about important issues and changes.
  • Management makes its expectations clear.
  • I can ask management any reasonable question and get a straight answer.
  • Management is competent at running the business.
  • Management hires people who fit in well here.

Those are the leadership behaviors we’ve been working on since day one. Being informed. Being clear. Being honest. Being competent. Hiring people who make each other better. When our team tells us we’re getting all five right, that’s our signal to keep going. To ask again next year. To make sure we deserve the answer again.

We’re hiring

If you’re looking for a team that treats culture as a daily practice, we’d love to hear from you.
