The Hiring Process: Resources to Assist Employers through Hiring, Interviewing, and Onboarding

Recently a contact of mine saw a post on LinkedIn directing people to a page on our website at https://tygesbhr.com/job-resources/. Here, we have created resources to help candidates who are searching for a new role.

This contact of mine made a comment that resonated with me. He said something along the lines of – I find it interesting that most consultants and recruiters focus on developing tools to help candidates with their search but there are few tools to help a client or company prepare for the hiring process. This resonated with me because we have been talking about this specific topic internally for the past few months.

You might ask yourself, “Do clients/companies really need help with their process?” The answer is an emphatic, “Yes.” It does not matter if they are big companies or small; or have well-documented hiring processes or none. I would estimate that upwards of 80% of companies out there have broken or no hiring process.

Here is an example. One of our Fortune 200 clients requires the candidate to log into its applicant tracking system once the interviewing is over. From there, the candidate’s submission goes through a number of approvals before a formal offer letter can be issued. This sounds easy enough except that, in this case, the candidate’s start date was extended by five weeks going through the lengthy, electronic approval system. In other words, this world class company has built in activity that has extended its hiring process by a month.

In a contrasting example, one of our clients has little to no standard practice in its hiring process. This extends beyond the interview process; it includes the front-end preparation all the way through to the back-end of onboarding the individual. We walk the client through each step to bring some semblance of process.

This week we kicked off a project to create recruiting resources for companies. This guidance will focus on hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and mirror the recruiting resources that we have created for candidates.

Over the next few months, we will be rolling out company focused content on our website.  As a sneak peak, here are the topics –

  • Defining Your Hiring Process
  • Preparing for Your Search
  • Preparing to Interview Candidates
  • Winning the Right Candidate
  • Offer Accepted – Now What?
  • The First 90 Days

More to follow.

Tim Saumier started his recruiting career when he opened TYGES International back in July 2002 after purchasing a franchise from MRINetwork. He has grown the business from start-up office in 2002 to where it is today helping clients around the world solve their talent acquisition problems. While he does place people with companies, he brings much more through his consultative coaching with both companies and individuals hence the reason he has built long-lasting relationships that continue to work with TYGES.

Prior to starting TYGES, Tim spent thirteen years in corporate America with companies like John Deere, Moen, and Philips where he had the opportunity to work in supply chain, operations, and engineering during his career.
