When Great Place to Work sent out the anonymous Trust Index survey and asked our team what makes TYGES a great place to work, we expected the usual suspects. Leadership. Culture. Support. Growth.
We got all of those. We also got popcorn.
Right there in the word cloud, sitting proudly among “leadership,” “genuinely,” and “together,” was “popcorn.” One of the biggest words on the whole page.
We are proud of our leadership. We are proud of our culture. And if we are being honest, we are also very proud of our popcorn.
The credit belongs to Holly, our resident popcorn artisan. She has an instinct for it. The perfect ratio of salt to butter. The exact moment to pull it off the heat. That first satisfying crunch when someone grabs a handful on their way back from a meeting. Holly has turned a simple office snack into something people write about in an anonymous survey.
There is something to be said for a workplace where the small things matter. The popcorn machine will never make it onto a job posting or into a recruiting brochure. And yet there it was, showing up when people were asked, unprompted and anonymously, what makes their workplace feel like theirs.
Great culture is built on the big stuff. The popcorn is an added bonus.
